Committee / Gary Swinfield
After twelve years working as a Quantity Surveyor in the UK and the Middle East, Gary joined the insurance industry as a loss adjuster and became Head of Construction & Engineering Claims for Thomas Howell Middle East, based in Al Khobar, KSA. Major claims handled during this time were located at petrochemical plants in Jubail and SWCC’s power and desalination plants across the country.
This led to a transfer to a start-up Risk Management consultancy in the Philippines and then an appointment as a Construction insurance broker with a major broking house in Asia. Experience in IPPs, mines, toll roads, telecoms and water supply systems followed, throughout their development, construction and operational phases.
Gary moved to Singapore in 2004 to carry out a regional role across ASEAN and S. Asia, focusing on Project Finance deals and PPP projects. This has led Gary to be involved in projects such as Paiton 3 (Indonesia), 5th Incinerator (Singapore), First Gen Hydro (Philippines), Cirebon (Indonesia) and others as well as providing Lenders’ Insurance Advisory services to many international and domestic banks for projects in Asia and the Middle East.
Gary joined Aon to continue and develop this role, particularly in light of the Global Financial Crisis and the need for fiscal stimulus packages and PPP developments that the resulting financial liquidity issues have created. In this role he has already assisted AES to bring their Mong Duong 2 project in Vietnam to a successful financial close and is now working on projects across the region with developers and financiers.
